Resistance sole way to liberate Palestine: Iran's Velayati

Resistance sole way to liberate Palestine: Iran's Velayati

Wednesday, 30 September 2020

Secretary-General of the World Assembly of Islamic Awakening Ali Akbar Velayati described resistance as the only option for liberating Palestine and thwarting American and Israeli plots.

In an address to a follow-up session of the Supreme Council of the World Assembly of Islamic Awakening, held as an extraordinary meeting via videoconference at the central office of the Tasnim News Agency in Tehran on Tuesday, Velayati described resistance as the only way to liberate Palestine from Israeli occupation.

He also noted that the concept of resistance, created after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, has defeated the arrogant plots and has resulted in Muslim unity across the globe.

Resistance has led to the defeat of the plots hatched by the US and its allies, such as the Greater Middle East, thwarted the proxy wars, and resulted in the failure of the Zionist regime’s military action against the Palestinian people’s Intifada, Velayati added.

He also highlighted the failure of the US-initiated deal of the century and Washington’s subsequent attempts to cover up its defeats in the region, saying the US and Israel are trying to deceive the public opinion through the announcement of normalized ties between the Zionist regime and a number of regional states.

The puzzle of treason against Palestine and betraying the cause of Palestine will ultimately result in the domino of fall of the puppet rulers in the region, as the awakened, pious and freedom-seeking nations will stand against the reactionary regional regimes with prudence and insight, Velayati underlined.

The Secretary-General of the World Assembly of Islamic Awakening also noted that 50 years of resistance in Palestine and Lebanon and 20 years of direct struggle against the Zionist regime, which had dreams of ruling over regions from the Nile to the Euphrates, have made the Zionist regime beleaguered inside the separation walls, like a spider entangled in its web.

Iran's Velayati: Snapback mechanism piece of US propaganda

Iran's Velayati: Snapback mechanism piece of US propaganda

Sunday, 20 September 2020

Washington’s push to trigger the snapback mechanism of the JCPOA for re-imposing sanctions on Iran is nothing but an attempt to attract the American public attention as part of a propaganda game, Iranian official Ali Akbar Velayati said.

In an interview with Tasnim, Velayati slammed the hype over the so-called snapback mechanism of the 2015 nuclear deal as a propaganda game.

Pointing to the US administration’s attempts to attract the public opinion after Donald Trump's plummeting poll numbers, the member of the Iranian team of JCPOA observers lashed out at the US for reneging on the nuclear deal and refusing to lift the sanctions.

“A one-sided JCPOA has no validity,” Velayati added.

Asked about Iran’s reaction to a possible activation of the snapback mechanism, he said the US, which has already withdrawn from the deal, has no right to make any comment or trigger the mechanism.

On the expectations that Joe Biden would win the US presidential election, Velayati said the weakest diplomacy taken by a country is to pin hopes on the fate of other states, stressing that the Iranian authorities do not care who the next US president will be.

Last month, 13 countries of the 15-member council rejected the US push to trigger the snapback provision in the 2015 nuclear deal, leaving Washington isolated on the issue.

UNSC Resolution 2231, which enshrined the JCPOA, states that if no council member has put forward a draft resolution to extend sanctions relief on Iran within 10 days of a non-compliance complaint, then the body’s president shall do so within the remaining 20 days.

The document, however, says the Security Council would “take into account the views of the states involved.”

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has claimed that all UN sanctions against Iran will be reinstated on September 20 after the US “activated the snapback mechanism.”

However, the claim was strongly condemned by other signatories of the nuclear deal including the EU, Russia and China.

The top advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that the West Asian region is under the influence of the fraternal, close, and good neighborly relations between Iran and Iraq.

On Tuesday morning, Nouri al-Maliki, the former Prime Minister of Iraq and the secretary-general of the Islamic Dawa Party met and held talks with Ali Akbar Velayati, the top advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Tehran.

In the sidelines of this meeting and among reporters, Velayati called Nouri al-Maliki as a friend who worked hard to advance the interests of the Iraqi people, and described his meeting with this Iraqi official as "very positive".

Velyati also expressed hope that under the leadership of the new government led by Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, Iraqi politicians will be able to take great steps in resolving the problems of Iraq and West Asia.

During the meeting, the Leader's adviser on international affairs and Nouri al-Maliki stressed the need to further expanding the two countries' interactions in the light of the 4,000-year-old intertwined historical relations and the many cultural commonalities between the two countries.
