ABWA Official Website - On the 7th day since the demise of the Ayatollah Abbas Ali Akhtari, the late representative of the people of Tehran in the Assembly of Leadership Experts, a commemoration ceremony was held on Tuesday evening, November 7, 2022, in the Imam Khomeini (r.a.) Portico of the Holy Shrine of Lady Fatimah Masoumeh (a.s.) in Qom, by the office of the Custodian of the Holy Shrine of Lady Fatimah Masoumeh (a.s.), the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly, the Office of the Supreme Leader of the Revolution, the Secretariat of the Assembly of Leadership Experts, the Management Center of Seminaries, the Association of Combatant Clerics of Tehran, and the family of the deceased.

The ceremony was held with the presence of dignitaries Ayatollahs, Hojat al-Islams, Messrs. such as Karimi Jahromi and Masoudi Alavi, professors of high levels of Qom seminary, Mohammad Hassan Akhtari and Hadavi Tehrani, President and member of the Supreme Council of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly, Sayed Hashem Hosseini Bushehri, head of the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom, Sayed Ahmad Khatami and Abbas Kaabi, members of the Assembly of Leadership Experts, Sayed Mohammad Saeedi, custodian of the holy Shrien of Lady Fatimah Masoumeh (a.s.), Mohammad Haj Abulqasem, on behalf of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Sayed Mohammad Taghi Shahcheraghi, Governor of Qom, Masjed Jame’i, the former ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Vatican, Al-Baghshi, President of the University of Hijazis, Abdullah al-Daqaq, director of the seminary of Bahrainis in Qom, Sayed Munzer Hakim, head of Al-Zurriah Al-Nabawieh Research Institute, Ashrafi Darvishi, Vice President of Ashura International Foundation, a group of directors of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly and Islamic Propagation Office of Qom Seminary, a number of non-Iranian students and different strata of martyr-nurturing people of Qom.

The speaker of this ceremony was Hojat al-Islam Sayed Hossein Hosseini Qomi, who while referring to the wise sayings of Imam Ali (a.s.) stated, “In wisdom number 289, Imam Ali (a.s.) said, “I had a brother who seemed great in my eyes. Because the world was small in his eyes. If he didn’t get something, he wouldn’t desire it, and if he got something, he would avoid excesses.” The commentators of Nahj al-Balaghah have presented many possibilities regarding the person mentioned by Imam Ali (a.s.). They suggest that the person may be Salman, Malek Ashtar, or Abazar. The mentioned characteristics can make anyone a role model in the religious community. If someone wants to know his position in the eyes of Imam Ali (a.s.), he should pay attention to these characteristics.”

“The sayings of Imam Ali (a.s.) in Nahj al-Balaghah do not mean that a person abandons his business. Imam Sadeq (a.s.) used to say that he is one of the richest men in Medina. So, in fact, it means that a person should not be a captive of the (material or mundane) world. That is, if the world turns towards him, he should not be proud, and if the world turns away from him, he should not be sad. Imam Sadeq (a.s.) said, “If you see a scholar who loves the (material or mundane) world, do not learn (or rely) your religion from him. Man should be close to a scholar that the meeting with him will create a reluctance to the world in man, and friendship with a scholar that changes arrogance into humility of man,” he added.

“The city of Qom does not have a favorable climate. But thanks to the presence of Lady Fatimah Masoumeh (a.s.), the seminary was established in this city. A few dozen years ago, there were three great sources of emulation in Qom, namely Grand Ayatollah Sadr, Khansari and Grand Ayatollah Hojat. They came to the conclusion that another Grand Ayatollah should take over the administration of the seminary of Qom. They requested Grand Ayatollah Borujerdi to come to this city. He came to Qom and accepted the Marjaiat of the Shiite world for 15 years (until his demise). This action of these three sources of emulation teach a lesson to us. Today we need such divine scholars with whom we can get closer to God,” added Qom seminary professor.

Referring to the characteristics of the late Ayatollah Abbas Ali Akhtari, Hojat al-Islam Hosseini Qomi stated, “He was the father of a martyr and he sacrificed one of his children to Islam during the holy defense (the 8-year imposed Iraq-Iran war). The late Ayatollah Akhtari was the former Friday Imam of Semnan and served in the Supreme Court for many years. He was also a member of the Council for Policy Making of the Friday Imams of the country. The late Ayatollah Akhtari served as an imam in one of Tehran’s mosques for many years. One of the tasks of a religious scholar is to serve people.”

“The late Ayatollah Akhtari wrote books on topics about the Quran and AhlulBayt (a.s.). He was considered one of the great scholars that all about him were mentioned in the condolence message of the Supreme Leader of the Revolution,” he mentioned. /345/
