Statement of AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly on condemnation of house arrest of Seyyed Ahmed Abdullah Sambi

Wednesday, 04 December 2019

Ahlul Bayt (a.s.) World Assembly issued statement on condemnation of the house arrest of Seyyed Ahmed Abdullah Sambi, former President of the Union of the Comoros and member of the General Assembly of the ahlul-Bayt (a.s.) World Assembly.

The full text of the Assembly’s statement is as follows:

In the Name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful

The governmental authorities of the Union of the Comoros, headed by Ghazali Osman, have placed Mr. Ahmed Abdullah Sambi, the former President of the Comoros, under house arrest shortly after his return from Paris to Moroni, the Comorian capital. There are serious concerns expressed by opposition forces and national figures in the Union of the Comoros for the life and health conditions of Mr. Ahmed Sambi in prison.

Mr. Ahmed Sambi, supporter of the axis of resistance and the Palestinian cause; returned to the Comoros with a huge reception by his fans on May 12, 2018 after several months of absence in his homeland. He returned to his country in order to hinder President Ghazali from freezing the work of the Constitutional Court and transfer of its powers to the Supreme Court headed by President Ghazali himself as well as an illegal referendum to extend his presidency over the country for an indefinite period.

Sambi's return was a direct cause for frustrating President Ghazali's plans to seize unlimited power; therefore, the Government of the Comoros imposed house arrest on the former President one week after his return to prevent him from communicating with the outside world, which led to his health deterioration, especially after he was prevented from receiving treatment for a whole year of imprisonment.
The Ahlul-Bayt (a.s.) World Assembly strongly condemns the continued house arrest of His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Sambi, a patriotic and noble dignitary, who has spent his life serving his country, his people and the Islamic community, especially the Palestinian cause and the axis of resistance.

The Assembly further deplores the ruthless, inhumane and illegal actions of the Comorian government, carried out through the silence of Western countries and so-called human rights defenders, and calls on all Muslim clerics, religious institutions and human rights organizations and all freedom-seekers around the world to renew their solidarity with Mr. Ahmed Sambi and voice their protests to declare their support for democracy and human rights and promote public freedom in that country.

The Ahlul-Bayt World Assembly hereby urges the Comorian Government and President Ghazali Osman to save democracy and freedom of opinion and expression by releasing Seyyed Ahmed Abdullah Sambi and resolving differences through dialogue and under the mediation of the United Nations; as we are much concerned about the country's dangerous junctures and its consequences including the deterioration of Mr. Sambi's physical condition in prison.

"And the wrongdoers shall soon know to what final place of turning they will end up" (the Holy Quran: Surah: Al-Shu'ara: Verse 227)
