Today, man needs monotheistic ethics, reconciliation with himself: Ayatollah Ramazani

The international conference “Ethics and Mysticism in the Thought of Allameh Tabatabai” was held at the Islamic University of New Delhi with the speech of the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly.

ABWA Official Website – On Monday, December 5, 2022, the international conference “Ethics and Mysticism in the thought of Allameh Tabatabai” was held at the National Islamic University of New Delhi.

This international symposium was held by the Department of Islamic Studies of the National Islamic University of New Delhi, with the cooperation of the Humanities Research Institute of New Delhi, and with the presence of great scholars and philosophy and theology professors of Delhi and the surrounding areas.

In this conference, which was well received by the professors and students of this university, a group of Indian and Iranian scholars and intellectuals studied the life and thoughts of the late Ayatollah Sayed Mohammad Hossein Tabatabai from the perspective of lifestyle, ethics and mysticism of that great contemporary commentator, philosopher, mystic and Islamic scholar.

Allameh Tabatabai had multidimensional character with “Sharia”, “Path” and “Truth” dimensions: Ayatollah Ramazani

The speaker of this conference was Ayatollah Reza Ramazani, the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly, who explained the characteristics, different aspects and fruits of materialistic, afterlife-seeking and monotheistic ethical schools.

About the results of these three moral schools he stated, “The materialistic ethical school, followed by the Greek philosophers, seeks worldly achievements; the afterlife-seeking school strives to reach heaven and afterlife benefits; while the foundation of the monotheistic ethical school is in achieving the absolute truth and ultimate perfection.”

“In the first school, the wisdom of livelihood is developed. That is, by following it, people will have a good life. In the second school, the resurrection wisdom is developed, in which the prophets play a central role. In the third school, love of God is central, and according to it, man does not consider anything other than God,” Ayatollah Ramazani continued.

“The basis of Allameh Tabatabai’s thought was the third school - that is, monotheistic ethics,” Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly added, “This basis was derived from the mystical ontology of Allameh which he took from the Holy Quran.”

“Monotheistic ethics is based on divine love. In this knowledge, one should seek help from God and see only God in everything, and recognize the will of everything in God’s will,” he added.

“Allameh Tabatabai had multidimensional character with “Sharia”, “Path” and “Truth” dimensions,” Ayatollah Ramazani added, “He was a great person with a path, who reached the stage of truth with Sharia. He was a rationalist personality who cultivated his ego to reach the intuition.”

“All Allameh’s effort was to adorn himself with divine attributes and to reach the goal of creation, that is, to become the most honored and best of the creatures. In monotheistic ethics, man achieves a deep peace and tranquility in all matters, the thing that human societies need today,” emphasized the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly.

“The most important fruit of monotheistic ethics is peace. The present era is the era of death of the souls. Today, unfortunately, many people are in sulk with themselves, with others, and with God. Reconciliation must begin with oneself, and the late Allameh Tabatabai emphasized this reconciliation with oneself and God,” he said.

“Everyone can follow Allameh’s mystical school, and in this world drowned in material things, this school can be a beacon of spirituality in the path to reach God Almighty,” stated Ayatollah Ramazani.

Also, citing examples of Allameh Tabatabai’s simple life without luxuries, Ayatollah Ramazani considered the life of Allameh a worthy example for those who are seeking for the truth.

All religions in India have a spiritual and mystical orientation

Hojat al-Islam Mahdi Mahdavipour, the representative of Supreme Leader of the Revolution in India, was another speaker of this international conference.

“All religions in India have spiritual and mystical orientation. India is the land of friends of Allah. All tribes in India are seeking for an ascetic and mystical life. Therefore, it was necessary to study Allameh Tabatabai and his thoughts in this country,” he said.

“In India as a “mystic friendly” country, various schools of mysticism are flourishing,” Hojat al-Islam Mahdavipour emphasized.

By describing the stages of life, and the mystical characteristics of Ayatollah Tabatabai, he considered “the comprehensiveness of Allamah” important for Indian intellectuals from Muslims, Hindus, to followers of other religions.

Presentation of articles and unveiling of books about Allameh Tabatabai

At the beginning of this meeting, Mr. Eghtedar Muhammad Khan, the head of the Islamic Studies Department of the National Islamic University of New Delhi, while thanking all those present at the conference, considered the presence of Ayatollah Ramazani and Hojat al-Islam Mahdavipour as an honor for him and the university.

Also in the conference, a number of Indian professors and scientific figures presented their articles.

At the end of this one-day conference, the books that have been published in recent years with the cooperation of AhlulBayt (a.s.) Assembly of India about Allameh Tabatabai and his thoughts in English, Hindi and Urdu were unveiled.

It should be mentioned that Ayatollah Reza Ramazani and Dr. Abdul Reza Rashed, Deputy for International Affairs of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly have traveled to India to visit Shiite institutions and activities in the country. /345/
