Since January 21, seven new languages have been activated in WikiShia virtual encyclopedia: Bahrami
One of the WikiShia stated, “On January 21, 2023, seven new languages were activated on WikiShia, and so far, 150 entries have been uploaded in these languages.”
ABWA Official Website – The unveiling ceremony of the new works of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly was held on Thursday, February 16, 2023, in the conference hall of the Assembly in Qom.
Introducing the seven new languages of WikiShia, Hojat al-Islam Hossein Bahrami, one of the officials of the virtual encyclopedia, stated, “In February 2022, activities in 5 new languages were put on the agenda of WikiShia, and in August, by the Secretary General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly, activities in these languages were inaugurated.”
“In September 2022, WikiShia was ordered to start activities in 5 more languages. We were worried that with the increase in languages, we would face difficulties in managing the budget. But the officials declared full support for activities in new languages. Therefore, the activity in new languages began quickly and intensively, and it was decided to inaugurate the activity in new languages on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution. It was also decided to add two new languages until Bahaman 22, 1401, (February 11, 2023, coinciding with the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution) to increase the number of languages to 22,” he added.
About the process of starting activities in new languages, Bahrami said, “A workgroup was formed to select the languages, and after several meetings, 13 main and sub-indicators were determined to measure the languages. After studies and consulting with experts, 25 languages were chosen, and a score was given for each of the mentioned indicators. The proposed languages were discussed in the council meeting. The council raised some points, and they were taken into consideration. Eventually, the languages in which the activity will be unveiled today were approved.”
“The selection of translators and foreign languages experts was done quickly. Finding translators and experts for new languages is difficult. Because they must be familiar with Islamic sciences. We gradually found translators for new languages. On January 21, 2023, seven new languages were activated on WikiShia, and so far, 150 entries have been uploaded in these languages,” he said at the end. /345/
