International webinar “The role of women in confronting the arrogant”/Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) worthy role model for helping oppressed: Akhtari

For the commemoration of the martyrdom of Aba Abdullah Imam Hussein (a.s.) and the Karbala event, and the role of Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) in conveying the message of the Ashura uprising, the International Ashura Foundation in cooperation with the United Ummah Center, organized an international webinar entitled “The role of women in confronting the arrogant”.

The international virtual conference was attended by some world historian scholars and researchers, as well as figures from Australia and European and African countries.

At the beginning of the webinar, Quran reciter Sheikh Mohammad Shahimi recited verses from the Quran.

Regarding the role of men and women in accepting social responsibility and fulfilling their divine duty, Ayatollah Mohammad Hassan Akhtari, the Head of the International Ashura Foundation, delivered a speech and emphasized the fulfillment of the divine duties of human beings as God’s caliph on earth.

“The wise leadership of Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) in protecting the family of Ahl al-Bayt (a.s.) and the captives, and confronting the oppressive ruler, and upsetting the balance of power, shows a true understanding and fulfillment of divine duties. The courage shown by Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) broke all the equations and predictions of Yazid and disgraced him. She also exposed the crimes of the Umayyads and changed all the balance of power,” she stated, regarding the heroic and great role of Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) before her presence in Karbala and after the tragic event of Ashura.

“At Yazid’s court, Hazrat Zeinab (a.s.) said, “I swear to God that you cannot destroy the Revelation of our Prophet (Muhammad (p.b.u.h))”. This message resonated in Yazid’s palace and exposed this oppressor. The accursed Yazid thought that he was facing a weak, hurt, afflicted, and helpless woman. He tried to show his pride, arrogance, and courage in killing Imam Hussein (a.s.) and his companions. By distorting historical events, he tried to portray Imam Hussain’s (a.s.) uprising as a rebellion and an illegal movement. But Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) showed that she is the daughter of and nurtured by Imam Ali (a.s.) – the Imam who destroyed the polytheists and suppressed the hypocrites and the wicked. Hazrat Zainab is the person who was able to turn defeat into victory, and captivity into freedom. She disgraced Yazid and made him the captive of his own crimes,” said Ayatollah Akhtari, stating that Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) created a comprehensive revolution against the ruling system of Yazid.

“Hazrat Zeinab (a.s.) is a worthy model for all people of the world. We must learn how to help the oppressed and win against the enemies and how to turn threats into opportunities,” he added.

Following the webinar, Dr. Sheikh Abdul Qadir Tarnini, poet and university professor, recited a beautiful poem about the event of Karbala, which has the concepts and themes of loyalty, honor, and pride of the AhlulBayt (a.s.), and said, “Regarding the character of Hazrat Zainab (a.s.), Imam Sajjad (a.s.) said, “Thank God that you are a scholar who has acquired knowledge from the source of revelation and has not been educated by anyone, and you are a sage that you did not learn from anyone”. Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) is divine proof. She is one of those who, like Hazrat Zahra (a.s.), God has made her one of the infallibles. Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) is a scholar who has the knowledge of this world and the hereafter together. She became a role model for the leadership of the Islamic community. While she suffered many calamities and hardships, Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) taught the world that Islam has the merit to give lives for it.”

“The mission-oriented role of Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) in introducing the Ashura movement and exposing the system of Yazid and the Umayyads is considered a victory. Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) was able to turn the apparent victory of the Umayyad army into a historical defeat and disgrace so that this issue would be a prelude to the overthrow of the Umayyads,” he added.

Then, in this webinar, on being a role model in the Ashura movement and questions about the role of women in a confrontation with criminals and oppressors, Dr. Ms. Hoveida Jabbagh, head of the European Association of AhlulBayt (a.s.) Women in Italy, emphasized, “In Western countries, where women face limitations and strangeness, they can raise their children and society based on the love of the AhlulBayt (a.s.).”

Ms. Nawal Shaddad, a journalist from Australia, after reciting a poem about the jihad of Hazrat Zainab (a.s.), said, “In the face of global arrogance and the propaganda power of the West, women in the West can refer to Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) as their role model and promote the teachings of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) according to her conduct.”

Sheikh Tawfiq Alawi, an Islamic scholar, in his speech, described three personality characteristics of Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) based on the principles of the Quran and the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h), and explained the term political figure and said, “This term is not just for men. Rather, it means masculinity, courage, bravery, and endurance in the face of adversity. Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) stood against the tyrants like a man.”

“This high-ranking lady had all the characteristics of a scholar, revolutionary and cultural figure. Because he was raised in the school of his father Imam Ali (a.s.) and his two brothers Imam Hassan (a.s.) and Imam Hussein (a.s.). Racially, she was from Bani Hashem and is an Alawite. She was able to form a pure and successful family. She sacrificed his children on the Day of Ashura and in the event of Karbala,” stated the university professor on the masculine aspect of Hazrat Zainab (a.s.).

“Hazrat Zainab had other characteristics such as patience, courage, and rhetoric. In the court of Yazid and Ibn Ziad, she was present with full power and courage and shook the foundations of the oppressive palace of these criminal rulers. The mission-oriented and propagation role of Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) shows her awareness of the importance of propagation in Islam,” she added.

Sheikh Mohammad Ezzeddin, a university professor, clarified the intellectual dimensions of Imam Hussein’s (a.s.) movement, “Today’s society, unfortunately, is far from understanding the truth and religion, and suffers from many harms and problems. The only way to save it is to learn the lessons and teachings of Ashura.”

Then, Sayed Fadi Al-Sayed, the head of the United Ummah Center, spoke about the role of women in awakening the ummah and their ability to confront the colonialists and the arrogant.

Citing verses from the Holy Quran, he provided evidence of the historical and mission-oriented role of Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) as a role model for women in the world and said, “The role of Asiya daughter of Muzahim, as a prominent role model, who stood against the tyranny of the Pharaohs, and also Mary (a.s.) in maintaining chastity and training of Jesus Christ (a.s.) is exemplary. The mission of Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) was also very important in exposing the crimes of Yazid and the Umayyads, by giving revealing and shocking speeches.”

“Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) learned courage, rhetoric, and patience from the school of Islam and her noble father Imam Ali (a.s.),” he added.

Sayed Fadi al-Sayed narrated historical material from books related to the life of Hazrat Zainab (a.s.), including the book “Khasaes al-Zeinabiah” (Characteristics of Hazrat Zeinab) by Noureddin Jazayeri about the common features of Hazrat Maryam (a.s.) and Hazrat Asiya daughter of Muzahim.

Then, he spoke about the meanings of patience, courage, and endurance of Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) against the Pharaohs of her time, namely Yazid and Obaidullah Ibn Ziad.

At the end of the webinar, by summarizing the contents of this virtual meeting, the director of the Studies Department of the Center of the United Ummah, emphasized the role of the historical leadership of Hazrat Zainab (a.s.) in exposing the anti-Islamic nature of the oppressive Umayyad rulers and changing the strategic equations of Karbala, revolt, and uprising against Bani Umayyad and Yazid.

He concluded, “Today’s society needs women like Hazrat Zainab (a.s.).”
