Mubahala, great miracle in proving righteousness of Islam, superiority of AhlulBayt (a.s.): Akhtari
On the anniversary of the “Event of the Mubahala”, an international webinar entitled “Mubahala; the Righteousness of Islam and the Proving of Wilayah” was held by the Ashura International Foundation.
ABWA Official Website – On the Dhul-Hijjah 24, 1445, the anniversary of the “Event of the Mubahala”, an international webinar titled “Mubahala; the Righteousness of Islam and the Proving of Wilayah” was held by the Ashura International Foundation.
In this virtual meeting, held on Monday, July 1, 2024, in Arabic, personalities from Iran and Egypt gave speeches, and Lebanese poet Ms. Fatimah Al-Sahmarani was the host.
Ayatollah Mohammad Hassan Akhtari, the head of the Supreme Council of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly, as the first speaker of the webinar, called Mubahala a great miracle from the Prophet (p.b.u.h) and said, “The Mubahela event contains many messages, two points of which are mentioned in this short time: 1. The righteousness of Islam, and 2. The superiority of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) of the Prophet (p.b.u.h).”
Regarding the first point, he said, “According to all historians and commentators, the bishop of Najran and about 30 elders and Christians of Najran came to Medina and asked the Prophet (p.b.u.h) questions, which are mentioned in the verses of the Quran. Then it was decided to carry out Mubahala, which the Christians did not agree to do, and the righteousness of Islam was proved. Both Muslims and Christians saw this miracle with their own eyes.”
Then, explaining the second point, the head of the Supreme Council of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly stated, “The Prophet (p.b.u.h) brought his family (AhlulBayt) – that is, Imam Ali (a.s.) and Lady Fatimah (a.s.), and Imam Hassan (a.s.) and Imam Hussain (a.s.) – with him for prayer, which shows their virtue.”
Referring to the Mubahala verse, Ayatollah Akhtari said, “The Quran’s reference to the event of Mubahala caused the event to become eternal. From this verse: “فَمَنْ حَاجَّكَ فِيهِ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا جَاءَكَ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ فَقُلْ تَعَالَوْا نَدْعُ أَبْنَاءَنَا وَأَبْنَاءَكُمْ وَنِسَاءَنَا وَنِسَاءَكُمْ وَأَنْفُسَنَا وَأَنْفُسَكُمْ ثُمَّ نَبْتَهِلْ فَنَجْعَلْ لَعْنَتَ اللَّهِ عَلَى الْكَاذِبِينَ” (If any one disputes in this matter with thee, now after (full) knowledge Hath come to thee, say: “Come! let us gather together,- our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves: Then let us earnestly pray, and invoke the curse of Allah on those who lie!”) (Holy Quran, Surah: Al Imran, Verse: 61), it is understood that Ali (a.s.) was the best of all companions of the Prophet (p.b.u.h) because the verse uses the term “أَنْفُسَنَا” (ourselves) about him.”
Then, to prove this, he referred to the opinions of Sunni elders such as Fakhr Razi and Mohammed Abduh in their Tafsir books. “All the correct hadiths in this case agree that the word “أَنْفُسَنَا” (ourselves) refers only to Ali (a.s.), “نِسَاءَنَا” (our women) refers to Fatimah Zahra (a.s.), and the word “أَبْنَاءَنَا” (sons) refers to Imam Hassan (a.s.) and Imam Hussain (a.s.). It is also understood that Imam Hassan (a.s.) and Imam Hussain (a.s.) are considered the (grand) children of the Prophet (a.s.). In this regard, Zamakhshari, a Sunni scholar and the author of Tafsir Al-Kashshaaf, also wrote that the verse of Mubahala refers to the superiority of AhlulBayt (a.s.) and the people of Ahl al-Kisa.”
At the end of his speech, Ayatollah Akhtari referred to a hadith narrated from the Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h) by Shiite and Sunni scholars – including Tabarani in his book al-Mu;jam al-Kabir: “لا يُؤمنُ أحدُكُم حتّى أكونَ أحَبَّ إلَيهِ مِن نَفْسِهِ، و أهْلي أحَبَّ إلَيهِ مِن أهْلِهِ، و عِتْرَتي أحَبَّ إلَيهِ مِن عِتْرَتِهِ، و ذُرِّيَّتي أحَبَّ إلَيهِ مِن ذُرِّيَّتِه” (None of you has faith, except he who loves me more than himself, and my Household more than his household, and my Progeny more than his progeny, and my descendants more than his own descendants.”
It is worth mentioning that so far the Ashura International Foundation has held more than 50 webinars on various topics with the presence of personalities from different countries.
