Ayatollah Kaabi: Sheikh Zakzaky is world reformer

The fifth anniversary of the oppressed martyrs of Zaria was held on Saturday, December 12, 2020, in the presence of the family of Sheikh "Ibrahim Zakzaky", the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, and in the presence of a group of thinkers from the Islamic world.

Member of Assembly of Experts delivered a speech on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at the fifth anniversary of the oppressed martyrs of Zaria, in Qom.

Referring to the Zaria massacre, Ayatollah Abbas Kaabi said: "This incident was a scandal for human rights defenders and countries claiming human rights before it became a religious issue."

"The Islamic Movement of Nigeria is a humane and Islamic movement based on monotheism and justice that strives to serve society. The movement calls for peace and has no military, irregular or destructive movements, but opposes terrorist groups such as ISIS and Boko Haram," he said.

He said that Nigerian government must begin constructive talks with the Islamic Movement of Nigeria and these talks should lead to the release of Sheikh Zakzaky to revive the spirit of hope in Nigeria.

Referring to the Nigerian government's stance on dialogue with the Nigerian Islamic Movement, Ayatollah Kaabi said: "The Nigerian government is ready for such a dialogue, but those who are agent of Zaria massacre and are under pressure of Zionism and Wahhabism are seeking to destroy Nigeria. The Nigerian government, meanwhile, must be ruled by reason and wisdom."

Ayatollah Kaabi said that Islamic Movement of Nigeria is a national movement that has its roots in the Prophetic Islam and the line of the Amir al-Mu'menin (a.s.) and the Ashura movement.

Ayatollah Kaabi called the Islamic Movement of Nigeria a moderate movement and stated: "This movement calls for brotherhood, love and humanity. The beginning of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria was from the universities of this country."

"When Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaki came to Iran after the victory of the Islamic Revolution, he had a two-minute meeting with Imam Khomeini, and the late Imam gave a Quran to Sheikh Zakzaky and told him to publish the Quran in Africa," he added.

It is worth mentioning that on December 13, 2015 when Shiites were mourning Imam Hussain (a.s.) in a Husseiniyah in the city of Zaria in Nigeria, the country's military forces with a previous plan to destroy Shiite Islam in Nigeria raided to the Husseiniyah of Zaria and home of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria and killed more than a thousand Shiites and a number of members of the family of Sheikh Zakzaky and severely injured the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria and his wife and they were taken to prison.
