Lebanon, symbol of Resistance: Ayatollah Ramazani

On Thursday morning, May 5, 2022, Hojat al-Islam Sheikh Ali Al-Khatib, Deputy Speaker of the Lebanese Supreme Islamic Shia Council, met with the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly in the Qom Assembly building.

In this meeting, Ayatollah Reza Ramazani stated, “The Lebanese Supreme Islamic Shia Council is one of the most important councils for overseeing the affairs of the Shiites. Imam Musa Sadr was a prominent figure in the field of proximity and dialogue. Also, Allameh Shamsuddin and Allameh Qabalan had extensive efforts and served in the Lebanese Supreme Islamic Shia Council for many years. I hope that the council can achieve its great objectives.”

Pointing to the need to continue such meetings, he added, “It is necessary to follow up the approvals of these talks in the future. We welcome the conclusion of the draft memorandum of understanding between the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly and the Lebanese Supreme Islamic Shia Council. Given the influential activities of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly and the Lebanese Supreme Islamic Shia Council around the world, concluding a memorandum could be a turning point for influencing and guiding the Shiites of the world.”

“We have observed the activities and influence of the thoughts of figures such as Allameh Shamsuddin and Allameh Qabalan,” the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly added, “God willing, the Lebanese Supreme Islamic Shia Council will participate in the meeting of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly, and communication will be closer.”

Referring to the emergence of the Resistance Movement in Lebanon, he said, “The beginning of the Resistance in Lebanon was with the actions of Imam Musa Sadr. From that time until today, the Resistance has had great effects in the country that must be analyzed and examined. Today, Lebanon has become a symbol of Resistance, and it is certainly influential in spreading resistance around the world.”

Also, on the activities of Sayed Hassan Nasrallah in Lebanon, Ayatollah Ramazani stated, “The movements and actions of Sayed Hassan Nasrallah are in line with the vision and goals of late Imam Musa Sadr. In the 33-day war (2006 Israel–Hezbollah War), the authority of the Resistance in Lebanon was demonstrated, which is an important blessing and capacity and should be taken into consideration.”

“We hope that the national determination will be effective in the next Lebanese elections, and that the enemies’ plan will be thwarted as in the past. We are optimistic about unity and solidarity to confront the opposition groups in Lebanon,” he added, referring to the upcoming Lebanese elections.

Today, there is a unique opportunity for the Shiites, and we should seize it. We need to create a common understanding among all Shiites against extremism. Rationality, spirituality, justice and resistance are important teachings of the Infallible Imams (a.s.). Also, the issue and motivation of resistance against tyrants and oppressors must be strengthened,” said the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly.

“The Assembly is a non-governmental organization and can influence global movements. The path and goal must be the creation of Islamic civilization, and to achieve this, it is necessary to have a strategy and vision. We also need to be together and experience being together,” he said, regarding the activities of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly in the world.

Referring to the enemy’s plans to divide Muslims, Ayatollah Ramazani said, “The enemies are seeking to create discord between the Shiites and the Sunnis. Therefore, we must try to prevent the creation of sects and differences that lead to the fratricide and killing of Muslims.”

“We have seen the effect of the Supreme Leader’s fatwa on the prohibition of insulting Sunni sanctities in the world. According to my knowledge of the ideas of Imam Musa Sadr, Allameh Shamsuddin and Allamah Qabalan, we consider the discussion of proximity between religions important, and we must move with the cooperation of Islamic scholars to create an Islamic civilization. Also, communication and interaction should be considered for all Shiite sects and groups for this matter,” he emphasized.

“There has never been an opportunity like today for enlightening the teachings of Islam. Therefore, we must use this unique opportunity to propagate Islam, and if we do not use this opportunity for unity and cohesion, the opportunity may become a threat,” said the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly, stressing the need to use today’s golden opportunity to propagate Islam.

“In order for Islam to conquer the world in the future, we need international literature and global discourse. The discourse of Islam is progressive, and thanks to the teachings of the AhlulBayt (a.s.), our hands are not empty. Therefore, our teaching and learning must be complete, and we must enlighten the school of AhlulBayt (a.s.) completely and comprehensively,” he added.

“The Supreme Islamic Assembly of the Lebanese Shiites is one of the most important and influential capacities in the Islamic world. The AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly with the AhlulBayt (a.s.) International University, the AhlulBayt (a.s.) News Agency - ABNA in 24 languages, and the Thaqalayn satellite TV, is ready to cooperate with the Lebanese Supreme Islamic Shia Council,” Ayatollah Ramazani concluded.
